Praying Large
Read for Today: Psalm 5:1-3
We all have requests we want God to answer. Some of those requests are more important than others. There was something I needed to happen in my life and during the time I was waiting I read this Psalm in my devotions. I took it to heart.
One of the things that really caught my eye was that David almost seemed to be begging God to answer his prayer requests. Not only that, but he also prayed “in the morning.” The first thoughts of his day were about God. What a wonderful relationship example this is for all of us. Our first thoughts each day should be of our Lord and Savior.
Also, when we have a request that is important to us, we need to let those requests be made known. If you are looking for a spouse, tell God. If you need to know what it is that God wants you to do with your life, tell Him. Pray to Him every morning and all throughout the day.
One day our pastor’s wife came to me about something and told me that when I prayed I needed to pray so big that when the answer came there would be no doubt in my mind God had indeed answered. This is good advice for any prayer. You can ask your friends and family to pray for an unspoken request for you. Since they don’t know exactly what it is they are praying for there will be no outside influences. You will be amazed at how God answers.
There will be many times in your life where you will need to earnestly pray and lay your requests before God. Don’t be afraid. Go to God unencumbered and tell God exactly what it is you need. He will answer.
It’s no secret that any relationship needs regular attention. When we lose touch with our friends, the relationship becomes stale. It’s the same with God - spiritually we will grow stale if we don’t keep up our end of the relationship through prayer.
Begin each day with prayer, before the problems of the day arise, before your mind gets cluttered, before there is one interruption after another. Commit each day to the Lord first thing in the morning.
Journal Entry:
List some of the requests that you want to lay before the Lord today. Pray big! God will answer your prayers. The answer may not look like what you had envisioned, but God will give us the desires of our heart if are in His will.
