Still smiling, she went into the house. She hadn’t felt this way in weeks, and it felt good.
Jordan was in the kitchen, looking morosely into the
refrigerator. “I thought we had some cheddar left,” he began as he turned around. His words stopped, although his mouth
remained open, but not, Kat saw, with admiration. Jordan looked at her, really looked for the first time in weeks, his eyes
narrowed and a dull red rising from his throat to his cheeks.
“What the hell have you done to your hair?” he growled, and
Kat felt her happiness flow away like water down a drain.
