Puffins have become the unofficial symbol for my book. I get emails about them, my Twitter avatar is a Puffin and I think that they might just get more attention than me.
This is a neat little tale that I've been telling on my recent author talks - it always gets a laugh!
Book Excerpt
Iceland Defrosted
I once saw a documentary in which world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay travelled to Iceland to catch and sample an Icelandic delicacy – the heart of a puffin. Gordon was taken to the cliffs of the Westman Islands, for a spot of sky-fishing. On catching a feisty puffin, he untangled it from the net and held it up for the camera to see. Quick as a flash, seizing his opportunity to make a stand for puffins across the world, the puffin turned and nipped Gordon’s nose, causing a shriek and a bloody injury. The puffin made good his escape. I don’t think there were many people watching that didn’t silently cheer for that little puffin and his televised protest.
