The second way you undermine your immune system is by refusing, avoiding, or just putting off exercising. This can really backfire on you. Although you may desire to be healthy and strengthen your immune system, it seems many people think of exercise as that awful “E” word. The truth is appropriate exercise does help the body maintain balance during the Winter months. Don’t use colder weather as an excuse not to exercise. Keeping a regular exercise routine all year long is essential for optimum health and wellness. Think of Winter as a time to try something new. You may consider joining a gym, a fitness group, consulting a personal trainer or just purchasing a video workout series to use in your living room. You can make all the noise you want and workout in your pj’s with little or no equipment. Thankfully, there are many options that will work with your lifestyle and wellness goals.
I urge you do discover the methods that work with your unique needs. Your body is designed for movement. The more you move about outwardly, the more your inner parts move, prompting healthier circulation, respiration, muscle tone and flexibility, and digestion and elimination. Sitting in front of the fireplace with the latest novel and a cup of hot chocolate is a wonderful Winter pastime. Just don’t forget to get up, stretch and move about frequently.
