Foreword
I am so excited to share this little book of secrets. My desire is to share what I have learned, with as many people as possible. My hope is that people will move past the point that the stories and scriptures in the Bible are just words in a book. My hope is that people will, as they come to know the greatness of God’s love for them, realize that the Bible is an endowment, a book of inheritance, and a treasure bequeathed to the sons and daughters of God. Just as wealth is made available to a trustee as they reach a certain age, the prosperity of the heavenly father is available to all his children whose faith matures to the point where they can receive his promises.
This book will make an outlandish promise: the wealth of God, regarding wisdom and the grace to increase in any skill, ability or knowledge needed to do any God-ordained task is available to anyone who has the faith to receive it.
I obtained my Master's degree from Regent University in Virginia Beach. While I was there, I read a book in one of my classes entitled “Your Work Matters to God” (Hendricks, 1992). That book powerfully impacted me by making the assertion that all our jobs and our businesses matter to God. The book emphasized that we all make contributions to the world, which are needed by God. From this premise, I began to realize that if what I was doing was important to God, I could ask for his grace to do it and his favor to be successful in it. Later I found out that I could even ask for the grace to increase my skills and abilities to perform the tasks in “work that mattered” to him.
“The gap that exists today between the world of religion and the world of work is growing rapidly. Like most Christians, your work and faith may rarely come together. You might feel like you live in two worlds: Your work seems generally antagonistic toward your Christianity, and your Christian faith seems irrelevant at work. This is a tragedy. Like millions of Christians, perhaps you go to work each day unaided and unchallenged by the Word of God. Consequently, you miss out on one of the greatest truths of Scripture—that your work matters to God! (Hendricks, 1992)
This book is a mix of biblical examples and my examples. I’m hoping that these examples inspire everyone who reads them to believe God for an increase in their skills, abilities, and knowledge to do whatever it is they are called to do. The Bible says in Daniel 11:32 that “the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” The supernatural enhancement of your skills and abilities is part of the great endowment of the Father; the great inheritance he has left for us. What you will see in these examples is that God’s help was available to those with relatively small jobs and to those who had leadership jobs with a national scope.
Why is it important that you have greater skill and ability to do your job, business or talent? First and foremost, it will bring glory to the God that gave you the skills and talents in the first place. The excellence you display in the area where you operate will serve as a light to all those around you and influence people positively for God. Second, as your skills and abilities increase, God can use that to help elevate you in whatever arena he has placed you. You will see examples of that in this book. Finally, if you are increasing in skill and ability you will likely be happy, which is, as Solomon says, in Ecclesiastes 5:18-20, a blessing from God:
Ecclesiastes 5:18 (NIV) “This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot.” Ecclesiastes 5:19 (NKJV) “As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and given him power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God.” Ecclesiastes 5:19 (NIV) “They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.”
