Jimmy’s Steakhouse was only a few blocks away and was supposed to be the best in the city! Jimmy Lubaur was a former and very loved local college football coach, and when he retired, he opened a chain of steakhouses. Not only was it the best, but also it was also the most expensive. Gary hadn’t had a good steak, or full meal for that matter, in months, and he was ready to blow the entire sum of his good fortune on this one lunch. He reasoned to himself that one never knows when this chance might come again.
He had never even been to Jimmy’s and had only heard of it by reputation. There was a time, about eighteen months ago now, when he and his wife had planned on going there to celebrate their wedding and their honeymoon, but plans changed and they were never able to make it.
When Gary walked in, he was very glad that he was dressed in his best. The clientele were all in business attire and the atmosphere was something out of a very rich scene from a movie. The host looked up from his podium. “Yes sir,” he said to Gary smiling, “do you have a reservation?”
Gary’s heart sank. “A reservation? Um, no, I’m sorry. I didn’t know that I needed one.”
“We are very busy during the lunch hour, sir,” the host said smiling. “If you’d like to make a reservation for another day, I’d be happy to…” the phone at the podium rang. The host held up his index finger, indicating that Gary should wait one moment, and picked up the phone.
