As it is used here, the term “use of self” refers to the coach’s active self-awareness in understanding how he is simultaneously effecting, and being effected by, the client during the coaching session. Use of self also requires the ability to self-manage our attention, energy, behavior, and emotional reactivity during each of our client interactions. In other words, use of self reveals how we enter into the coaching process as human beings and how we continue to work at an interactive level.
