“The authorities?” She croaked out a short laugh. “You know so much, but so little. The Atanasovs pay out the best bribes to the police and politicians alike across Bulgaria.”
“Oh, I’m aware of that, but I just thought you might want to know…your father provided me with a great deal of information that is going to help the people the Atanasovs are hurting now. He didn’t die in vain and regardless of what he may or may not have done during his employment with them, his final actions definitely showed what kind of a man he was.”
“Thank you,” she murmured. “If you will give me your information, I will contact you if I remember anything else. But in the meantime I must ask you to leave…my husband will be home very shortly and he knows nothing of this. I want to keep it that way.”
“Of course.” I handed her a business card and stood. “Thank you, Lina, you have no idea how much you’ve helped tonight.”
She smiled sadly as she walked me to the door. “Good luck to you. If you plan to go after the Atanasovs, you will need it.”
