The wind whipped across my face and the cardinal flew away. I watched him fly up and into the tall trees in our backyard. I stood up, reaching my arms over my head and filling my lungs with the clean, fresh air. Looking up at the blue sky, Oma’s voice whispered in the clouds. I smiled at her.
“Oma, fly free with me now, let’s dance!” I called. Warmth began radiating down my arms and legs, grounding me, filling me with light. Love had set us both free from decades of being in chains.
A gust of wind blew through my hair. “Mommy,” a voice whispered in the breeze. I knew that voice and my whole body tingled. My Joseph. I felt him near, just like in Layla’s nursery only minutes before. I heard my girls laugh as they twirled and danced in the sun. Joseph was with them too, holding onto them in the bond of love, that has no beginning and no ending.
