Carnal Moon
A long suffering sigh escaped Gabe. “Time for more exciting people to hang out with. And how did Gwen react to you being a vampire?”
Nick shrugged. “Scared as expected. It didn’t help when she discovered I used mental tricks at dinner. I told her how much I hated having to do it. You know my dislike of mind control.” And Gabe wore a scrutinizing expression. Did he discern the truth?
“Keeping vampires secret comes first.” Gabe’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully, but he didn’t say anything else.
“I explained that to Gwen.” Nick stretched his legs. “And while she doesn’t like it, she understands my reasoning.” He let out a tense breath. Might as well get this out. Gabe already knew the truth from the look on his face. “I think I’ve developed a Bond with her.”
Gabe’s emerald eyes sparkled with keen interest. “Why do you say that?”
“She can smell me for one.”
Gabe’s gaze grew more focused. “Yeah, I can sense it.”
Nick wore a cautious expression. “How do I stop this? I don’t want to doom Gwen to this world.”
“Oh for fuck’s sake, we’re not burning in the depths of hell,” Gabe muttered in exasperation.
“For you, maybe not,” Nick griped. “I’m surrounded by flames every damn day.”
“And whose fault is that, you dipshit?” Gabe returned. “You’ve been alive for nearly two hundred years, and you’re still pissy over being Turned. Move on. And you can’t be human again. Why continue being miserable when you needn’t be? This won’t bring back Clara. Amara retains control because you remain furious with her.” He pointed at Nick. “And now with a chance at happiness, you’re bitching? This may never happen again. Don’t squander it.”
