Dad’s name as far as I had known, was William Ray Cannon, but the story cannot be that simple. Those four older sisters, along with the whole family, had long awaited a boy to enter the picture. Each sister was determined to name him what they wanted, therefore, there were many fights among the siblings which resulted in no name actually being chosen.
With all the squabbling about dad’s name, his mother just chose to ignore the fact that he didn’t actually have a name at all. She let all those high-spirited girls call him by the name they wanted (and this continued all his life.) One called him Bud and one called him Preacher; (I have no clue why) but this name was shortened to Preach. One called him Buck and one called him Ray. His dad called him Billy and his mother just called him Baby.
