Carnal Moon
“I sense a dilemma.”
With a snarl, Nick snapped his head around. He specifically came out to be alone. Shit, he’d even gone around the bend from the house for privacy. “I hate people sneaking up on me.” And he’d forgotten Ambrose’s aimless wandering in the woods at night.
Wearing a placid expression, Ambrose waited a few feet away. As usual, he wore black clothing with lengthy, ebony hair pulled back. While appearing to be in his late twenties, he was over a millennium-and-a-half old. “You were too involved in your thoughts to notice my approach.” He stepped onto the dock. “Is there a problem with Ana? She appeared distracted after meeting with you.”
Nick shook his head as Ambrose came up next to him. “No, she’s helping me.” He glanced over at Ambrose. Perhaps sage wisdom could put things into perspective. “I have a date with a human female tomorrow night.”
Ambrose raised an eyebrow. His silver-ringed black irises were full of curiosity. “Indeed? I await details.”
“There were no intentions of seeing Gwen past tonight.” Nick’s eyes returned to the water. “I don’t know why I asked her out tomorrow, but I did. I’ve thought about her non-stop for three goddamn months.”
“So what changed?”
“The opportunity presented itself, and I took it.” Nick shrugged. Hopefully, this wasn’t the wrong decision, mostly for Gwen.
“How long were you with her tonight?”
“Maybe half an hour; we went for coffee.” Nick chuckled. “Ana laughed about that.”
Ambrose wore a light smile. “I can understand why. Where did you meet this woman?”
“At a show of mine. Tara introduced us.”
“Is she to be another Ana?” Ambrose regarded Nick with interest. “Having two Donors can be harrowing.”
“Hell if I know.” Nick ran a hand through his hair. “I want more than Gwen’s blood. Beyond that, I can’t say.”
