Julie closed her eyes and put her hand on her heart, breathing heavily. She started to laugh. “God, Tom, you scared the crud out of me. What in the world are you doing here?”
“I work here the last time I checked,” he said, and then laughed at his own joke.
His bounciness and excitement made Julie more curious than ever, and she wondered if, perhaps, some good fairy godmother had given him a pumpkin carriage overnight.
He ran up to and grabbed Julie and then pulled her into the front office area and started dancing a few steps with her. She wasn’t sure if she was smiling because of the crazy behavior or because of shock, but she smiled nonetheless and enjoyed the happiness that the two were sharing.
“Oh! Before I forget my manners any further, good morning, beautiful!” he finally said, “How are you this wonderful and glorious morning?”
Julie, still smiling and now slightly out of breath, pulled away just a bit from Tom. She didn't know what to say, but the look on her face showed her curiosity as to whether Tom was drunk or had just lost his mind.
