“You’re kidding me, right? You’re going to use what we went through as an excuse for how you treated me? After you just threatened to kill me? You’re a sociopath, the psychiatrist was right, I should never have responded to your message. I should have stayed away from you for my own safety.”
“Well, you didn’t,” She said with a sneer on her face. “You just couldn’t resist ‘because I’m so cute and you know how much you just can’t turn down a pretty face.”
“That’s not fair” Darius responded.
“Oh well, life’s not fair, as we all know, don’t we? But here is what I do know, you can’t stay in there forever, and when you come outside, if I’m as angry as I am now, I might just torture you until you beg me to kill you.”
“Well, I do have a lot of supplies in here, I mean I have groceries, I can probably wait you out for a week and let’s face it, I’m not really convinced that you’re a vampire. I mean you can point out some horrible things, and you’ve been threatening to kill me, so I don’t really feel like letting you in.”
With that, the red-headed spark plug, scraped her long nails along the glass as she rose another foot in the air and a mysterious wind begin to blow her hair back. Her eyes glowed red, she glared at Darius with a gaze that bored through his soul.
“Is that good enough?” She said.
Darius was dumbfounded, he stumbled backward a couple of steps, reaching for the chair at the kitchen table next to his loyal dog. Henry finally broke his gaze from the woman in the window to look at his master with concern and worry. The look was brief and then it was back on the evil creature in the window. Darius was dumbfounded; he held his head in his hands for a moment. He tried to speak; he didn’t know what to say. He leaned his elbow on the table, head still in hand.
“So, you’re telling me this is real? These things are real; I mean I’ve researched this sort of stuff, the myth and the legend behind it from different cultures, but I never… This is real?” He said in disbelief.
She just continued to stare at him as if the question was one of the stupidest things she ever heard.
“I know they say there’s truth in every legend but I can’t believe this is real.”
Allison lowered slightly back toward the ground and glared, continuing to try to bore a hole through him with her eyes.
“Believe it, it’s real and I’m here, and this is my life now, and I want you to be a part of it; I’m giving you the opportunity, but God help me, if you make me beg for it I will make sure that you die in agony. You know we’re supposed to be together.”
Darius sat dumbfounded “I still don’t know if everything you’re telling me is true. How are you even out? We were out in broad daylight before.”
“Oh, don’t be so stupid” She spat scornfully at Darius. “Just because vampires are real doesn’t mean that all the stuff you’ve heard from various legends is true, you know that better than anyone. Vampires can walk around in the day. You know that you were the one who told me that the whole idea of sunlight killing vampires was created by Hollywood, never part of the original vampire legend. Well duh, yeah, that’s right, sunlight: not a problem. A lot of things aren’t a problem and your crosses and things like that, they don’t matter so if you think you’re going to grab one from your knickknacks on the wall, don’t waste your time.”
Darius thought for a moment and replied “That may be true, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t wait you out. I have food in here for weeks, who’s to say you’re telling the truth about not needing to eat or drink? You must need to feed regularly.”
“Darius, I’m undead, and you can stay in here as long as you want, but guess who can’t?”
Then her gaze turned down to Henry who lowered his head, looked back at his master with concern again and then looked back at her. Although he was apprehensive, the dog began to release a low grumble again.
“Guess what? The dog you love so much? He has got to go outside eventually, even if you have enough food for him too, he needs to go outside and when he does I’m going to rip him apart. I’ll make you watch me skin him alive after I break all of his legs, and it will be your fault because you could have prevented it by just letting me in. I will make that thing suffer so much that it will give you nightmares. Maybe I will, even if you do let me in, just so you can experience what that’s like.”
Darius looked down at his companion, they shared a moment of eye contact again. He stroked the head of the gentle giant. He breathed heavily, a little worried about the mental health of the woman glaring at him.
“Maybe, but I do know one thing: there’s no fucking way I will let you in.”
“Ahhh, you fucking asshole” Allison screamed, banging her hands on the door.
Darius got up and walked quickly over to his at-home work office. He reached for the phone and suddenly like a flash, a blur of red and white, Allison’s hair and dress, were menacing in the window. Her skin began to change color, somehow paler now with undertones of purple and blue. She sneered from the window. Her arms and hands seemed to become even more purple and distorted as her face scowled up with deep furrows that looked something beyond human.
“You think I wouldn’t think of that, you idiot?” She screamed through the window.
He paused for a moment and then he picked up the receiver anyway. He heard the dial tone and before he could press any buttons, there was a noise, it was Allison screaming.
“Ahhhh”
A second later she was holding a torn, frayed phone cord that she had ripped out of the exterior wall from below the window. She glared at him.
“It’s not going to be that easy!” She said.
Darius quickly left the office, walking through his other sitting room. Allison flew by the windows there as well, banging on them and beginning to rattle them with some sort of supernatural vibration.
As Darius rounded the corner, she said: “Darius, I know you’re going to look for your cell phone next, but think about this: what are you going to say?”
Darius paused for a moment letting her words undermine his determination. Suddenly she was at the side window next to the patio door again, off in the distance.
“Think about it Darius” Suddenly she was at the front door. “What are you going to tell them? Are you going to call the police?”
Her voice came from the window directly behind him.
