I've experienced it in my own life and I'm sure you have as well. You go from the incredible high and hit the ground like a passenger in a plane crash. We hit those highs and lows for various reasons and many times, they're different for us all. The story of The Compass Society starts out focusing on Gary Winslow. His wife has disappeared and no one seems to be able to find her. After a year of an amazing marriage, she just vanishes. Now, three months after the incident, Gary has lost almost everything else that made him, and his life, the joyful experience that it was. Please enjoy this excerpt, feel free to let me know what you think by emailing me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and please consider reading this exciting book.
The year that they had been married was incredible and no man could have asked for better or more. Then, she walked out of the door with a kiss and a flirty toss of her hair. No one had seen her nor heard from her since. Gary looked everywhere. The police looked everywhere. Gary’s friends looked everywhere. After a while, the police suspected foul play and questioned Gary, repeatedly. Eventually, suspicions softened although Gary always felt that, to this day, eyes were watching him and he never knew from where. He just knew that someone somewhere was watching his every move. At first he just chalked it up to paranoia but he was never quite sure. The person he would catch looking at him and then nonchalantly turning away when Gary saw them, never seemed to make an impression. He was never quite sure if it was coincidence or intentional. Because Gary couldn’t decide whether his suspicions were based on reality or a fantasy contained within his own mind, Gary became depressed.
