I felt slight vertigo and opened my eyes just in time to see the world around me turn foggy. I was falling backwards into... somewhere I had not been before.
Startled, I rose to my feet. I stepped backwards one step and the world grew even dimmer.
Fear made my heart pound. I stood dead still, listening. Not a sound. It seemed no one was near. Carefully holding onto my footing I turned my head to look behind me and saw nothing but fog there. I turned my head again and the world came into view.
I took a step forward and the world became clearer, more real. A step backwards, and the fog began to hide it. The strange thing was that where I had been sitting it was dark night, but here this fog appeared to have a glow of its own. A dim light, but a light nevertheless.
Where on earth was I? Was I in danger?
