With a warm smile, Linsora walked toward the bay with Gordek. It wasn’t until they were passing through the doors that it occurred to her she had never told Kral her mate’s name. Kral had already left the staging area by the time she turned back. What was it Capt. Haavens used to say when the Dominator was in a difficult spot? Caught between a stone and a fire pit? Something like that.
Silence seemed the order of the day. Even Gordek was quiet during the short trip that took them through the blue skies of Khizara into space. She had made such trips more times than she cared to count, but each time Linsora was surprised at the vision of endless specks of light dotting the darkness. There was no longer a horizon, no reference point to aim for. She usually felt a great freedom along with the first sight of open space, a release of the limits posed by horizons. People who had never been in space missed more than they could possibly imagine.
