Exodus 20:17
You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
Dear Heavenly Father
My arms are sore and my eyes are tired as I come to You today. I've spent too much time reaching for things that belong to someone else. I stare through my neighbor's window far too long. Help me overcome this tendency to want what isn't mine to begin with. My depraved mind is too quick to think others have it better than me. Remind me they're likely doing the same thing to me. Give me a right perspective.
There's no good reason for me to be discontent with the things You've given me. You've placed me where You want me and given me the tools to get the job done. Let me focus on the task You've given me, not on what You've given someone else. Keep my motives pure and my thoughts right as I live my life for You. Thank You for allowing me the privilege of being Your servant here on earth. Ground me with right desires.
Your Word promises me that You make me lie down in green pastures. So, why am I so anorexic while I drool over the grass in other fields? Let me taste and see that what You've provided for me is more than sufficient for me. Give me a hunger for Your purpose for my life. Keep me focused on being me, not on wanting to be someone else. Grant me a proper vision.
As the manna was provided each morning for Your people as they left slavery keep me content on what You've provided me. You'll give me what I need to finish each day on Your schedule. Tomorrow will come with its own problems and demands. You are already in my tomorrow. Your provision will be there for me when I need it. Remind me of Your constant care.
I acknowledge it's only because of Jesus' ultimate sacrifice I come before You now. AMEN
