I was never glad to be anywhere new, not at first anyway. None of us kids were. It was so hard finding friends in a different place, fitting in. But of course after a while we did . . . and then we’d be on the move again.
I always intended to put down roots, but the early years must have hatched some compulsion that kept me itinerant till now. Belatedly the plan to settle is firm but the destination is not.
