Goals and Money
When I was growing up I never had that many goals,
I either wanted to be an athlete, rapper or a famous actor.
Drug dealing, I knew it was going to get me locked up eventually,
Or someone was going to rob me and blow my damn head off.
I was that kid who was caught up in that life,
Trying to turn it around slowly and progressively.
I wish I had better goals as a kid no one inspired me,
Career occupations like a lawyer, doctor or owning my own business.
Then again, it isn’t too late, it’s never too late,
To figure out what your passion truly is.
Turning my life around was the biggest part for me,
The next step is working toward becoming a social worker.
It’s how you recover from your bad decisions and not to repeat them.
Money is the root of all evil, I’ve learned that,
The guys I’ve grown up with, they’re still on the corner.
Still trying to make money off of the drug trade,
And dodging the police, jail and even death most nights.
I accomplished one goal of getting a degree from high school,
Eventually I’ll have college degrees to put on a book shelf.
Crazy how I had no one to tell me to strive for greatness,
No one in the neighborhood stopped me from selling drugs.
Realizing now, no one really cared for me like that,
They just wanted to make their money and at whatever costs.
I knew the gangbangers, the drug dealers and the hardcore criminals,
I’ve had to dodge bullets and get locked up to get off the streets.
Trying to tell my brother to stay away from that scene,
Now he’s in prison and I’m trying to get him to turn his life around.
It isn’t the end for him either, he can get out and turn it around,
Goals can be achieved and money can be made the right way.
Time to get to work on my goals in life,
And teach these young ones that there’s more to life than the streets.
Learning so much about life and who really cares for you,
People don’t really talk to me like that in the neighborhood anymore.
Left the streets alone, the women left me behind and kept it moving,
Now the police and FBI are busy watching their every move.
They’re hanging around the drug dealers of the neighborhood,
When a lot of them had so much potential to do well.
