The leather couches and recliners, the color of espresso, were gleaming and a fire was laid in the fireplace. The room connected to the dining room and both had open beams with tongue and groove wood ceilings. The glass, wood, and stone gave the house a warm look and feel. Books and magazines were at hand, along with a large flat screen television. French doors opened to a deck that connected with another off the kitchen and breakfast nook. The views were remarkable, and the deck was outfitted with a grill, plenty of lounge chairs, tables with umbrellas, and a hot tub that was situated near the french doors off the master suite. Colorful flowers burst from the immaculate grounds and the crepe myrtle trees were dripping with fuchsia and red blossoms.
Outside the raindrops had become a downpour. She needed to finish unloading and made a run for it, moving her car into the garage. Completely drenched, she wrestled a load from the car, shucked her shoes, and scuttled barefoot down the hall to the master suite. Sam started organizing some of the clothes and toiletries she brought with her to add to the already delivered items Becky had engineered.
As always, her closet was organized by color and season. Her smile widened as she glanced around the room. A huge granite topped island dominated the open space. It was complete with drawers to hold everything, closet rods all the way around the room, with shoe racks underneath, a jewelry cabinet, storage above, and several mirrors. It was a bit of an indulgence for a vacation home, but she was glad she had done it now that she planned to live on the island.
There was another fluffy dog bed next to her king-size bed. Built in bookcases and dressers lined the bedroom walls on three sides. A flat screen television and a sofa completed the oasis. French doors opened onto the deck from the bedroom and the master bath. The bathroom had a huge walk-in shower with multiple jets and a separate soaking tub. The heated tile floors beneath her feet diminished the chill and she reached for a towel from the warming rack and dried off.
Being in the master suite made her think of Marty. They had made a trip to the island to celebrate their anniversary last year before the lavish party at the Shoreline house. They spent a long weekend lounging and relaxing. They made promises to spend more time at the island once Sam’s company sold and they would have the freedom to travel and enjoy each other. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but a few weeks later Sam was stunned to learn that Marty had been unfaithful for years. Sam shook her head in an attempt to disrupt the funk and finished organizing her things.
