“Turn around, Gloria. I wanna see what the years did to your face.”
“Mom, please remember what we talked about. I want everyone to get along for my sake, everyone.”
“Don’t worry, we wouldn’t purposely embarrass you.” Gloria turned around, and took Jimmy’s hands in hers. She gave him a Latino kiss, and then looked down at Mori, who was looking disappointed about how nice age had been to her. “I forgot how short you were, and I hardly recognize you without your sweet little cowgirl hat. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in a dress before now. You look cute, Mori, and I can also see that the years have been as good to you as they have to me.” Then she pulled her closer, and kissed her the way she’d done to Jimmy.
Taken by the urge to call her a witch, and knowing that her act was for Emma, Mori just smiled. “You’re right, you do look as good as me. Lucky us, isn’t that so?”
Jimmy put his arms around them both and began walking, “Ok, then. I think we’re off. Emma, shall we?” He winked at his daughter, his way of telling her that he planned to interfere if anything went sour between the two women.
