She deposited the dirty dishes and turned around to greet a woman she didn’t recognize. “Welcome to Harbor Coffee.”
The woman smiled and took off her stylish red cape, depositing it on a chair before she approached the counter. “Good morning. I think I’ll splurge and have a hazelnut macchiato.”
“Would you like a pastry to go with that?” asked Regi, admiring the woman’s tasteful clothes. She wore slim black pants and a crisp white shirt, topped off with a supple red leather blazer.
The woman’s whiskey colored eyes widened when she looked in the pastry case. “I don’t think I can resist a chocolate croissant.” She started to open her handbag.
“Go ahead and sit down. I’ll bring it over along with the check,” Regi said, as she plucked a flaky pastry from the display.
As Regi worked the wands on the espresso machine, she watched the sophisticated woman, noticing how her chunky antique silver jewelry coordinated with the buckles on her black boots. Her hair was dark with silvery strands woven throughout and although Regi guessed she was close to sixty, her skin was smooth, lacking noticeable wrinkles.
