School has always been hard for me, for the longest,
It wasn’t because I was illiterate or couldn’t do my schoolwork.
I’m just a smart young kid, going to school with average students,
A lot of my friends and peers settle for mediocrity.
I strive for the best and the best only which is a gift and a curse,
Sometimes I can be too hard on myself with certain classes.
I have my strengths and weaknesses in various subjects,
Math and science are not my favorites but I still do well in them.
With a high grade point average in school I’m always made fun of,
I don’t care to go out and party, drink, or do drugs.
So yeah I’m considered the goodie two shoes or the teacher’s pet,
Or those good ol’ infamous names, a nerd or geek.
It’s hard to deal with my peers at times being made fun of,
These days, I stay off of social media and stick to my books.
My peers think it’s easy and that the good grades don’t come with effort,
Little do they know I spend hours a night studying different subjects.
The subjects I’m weaker in, I spend more time on,
Granted I know I won’t have a care in the world for it when the semester is over.
It’s all about getting into a great college and striving for my goals,
So I pay the price and sacrifice a lot of my personal life to do it.
I go have fun occasionally and I play on my sports teams,
But no, nothing challenging will ever be easy, that’s the truth.
I have goals to accomplish and fulfill, the grind continues.
People think my IQ is really high and everyone asks me what it is,
Whatever happen to just hard work and dedication to my studies?
Just how we all become good at a specific sport or talent,
But no, that can’t be the case when it comes to schoolwork.
It has to be something, there has to be a niche to this whole thing,
There’s just no way I can be that studious and that dedicated.
Maybe if my peers applied themselves, they’d excel like me,
I have friendly competitions with my 3 friends on who will get higher grades.
It’s just us four, we’re the small group who always excelled in school,
We’ve known each other since the 7th grade, it’s been a great friendship.
Now we’re in our junior year of high school and it’s our crucial year,
College applications, essays, SATs, sports teams and our classes.
We’re all in advanced classes with higher expectations and bigger challenges,
We’ve accepted our names by our peers as the nerd squad.
We don’t call each other nerds, just dedicated students in school,
We don’t have time to identify with what everyone thinks of us.
I’m not really close with the other girls on my sports teams like that,
For me I know they envy me because of how good I am in sports and in the classroom.
You get to that place where you know who are your true friends,
Along with who’s talking behind your back and who doesn’t really like you.
