The Narratives is a collection of short introspective essays written by an average guy in an effort to better understand himself, his life, and his relationship with the world around him while traveling the road of self-discovery.
As a child, I was always afraid of the dark. Over time, I grew to embrace it, and call it a friend. Sometimes, it does give me the answers I seek
The inner turbulence overwhelmed in the wake of my loss, ten months after the fact. This was the beginning of a three month struggle to cope with my loss.
The impetus for finding my way back to my own personal brand of journaling, 25 years after I started putting pen to paper.
This is the first paragraph of the first essay of Narratives I - the very beginning of my journey into the world of independent publishing. I'd found a second home - a place where I could do my writing while not being encased in total silence. The background noise comforts me, but can also be overwhelming - enticing me every step of the way. Some days, it's hard to tune it out. But without it, there is only silence.
The Narratives is collection of short introspective essays written by an average guy in an effort to better understand himself, his life, and his relationship with the world around him while traveling the road of self-discovery. These works can best be described as the author's unique brand of journaling, encompassing both self-reflective entries, and an expression of thoughts and opinions surrounding social issues of the present day. The Narratives III: Fanning The Flames departs from its predecessors, taking a more cynical personal tone and presenting a more pointed, indignant, view. Half the essays are a further examination of the author's innermost thoughts, while the remaining pieces are lightweight "op-ed's", touching on issues that are front and center to our national discourse. The Narratives III: Fanning The Flames, is the third volume in The Narratives series.

Pulled from my summation essay. What will we have left when it's all said and done? What will be be proud of? What will truly matter?

For me, what I held onto was my journaling notebooks. One afternoon, I picked up those old journals and reread some of my entries, and that was how I came up with the idea to write this "then and now" essay.
Gettysburg was my first brush with the metaphysical. But years later, I experienced a much more personal brush with this phenomenon - a few months after the death of my significant other.
This excerpt was pulled from an essay I'd written describing what I experienced while visiting Gettysburg PA, for which I can find no reasonable explanation. The entire trip was surreal, and it's all documented in this essay.
