My Journey with Bernie

Politics & Social Sciences

Lessons learned and uplifting stories of grassroots progressives during the 2016 Presidential election, at caucuses and primaries, and conventions on the front-lines of a new political revolution. My Journey with Bernie is an adventure and reads like “a roller coaster ride” with incredible highs, steep drops, and lows with inspirational, uplifting stories about the people who are bringing enthusiasm, hope, and leading a new political revolution. In My Journey with Bernie, Kacey Carpenter shares his personal story and lessons learned from people he met during the campaign, at caucuses and primaries, and conventions. Along his journey, he gains trust in the power of people with renewed optimism for “A Future to Believe In.” “Look it's not about me, it's about us, and when we stand together we can do anything,” Bernie Sanders tells the volunteers at the Reno Rally in December 2015, pointing his finger directly at me, Kacey recalls, urging all of us to do more. “At that moment,” Kacey says, “I feel the Bern.” Soon, he is co-leading 300 people from 30 states to go to Iowa for the first Democratic Party caucus to begin a journey traveling around the country and the world.

Lessons from My Journey

My life changed during my journey with Bernie. I found my purpose, passion, and plan to help build a future to believe in for all. Soon, I will be launched my next book Ready, Set Go! Playbook for Campaigns, Candidates, and Causes. Save the date! This book captures the insights, tips, and best practices from grassroots progressive campaigns, candidates, and causes. #NotMeUs

Let's go to Iowa!

During the 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign, I co-led a group of 300 people from 30 states to travel on a journey with Bernie to Iowa. Now, it is 2020 and I am returning to Iowa this time with 3000 volunteers from around the country! The Bernie Sanders 2020 campaign has name this program Bernie Journeys! This year the weather has been cold with snow storms. I am ready with a warm snow parka, boots, gloves, and warms clothes! Please help us spread the word and join a Bernie Journey to Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina or any of the other states including California! If you are not to travel, volunteer to make phone calls, text, and canvass in your own neighborhood at map.BernieSanders.com

Happy Independence Day

As I get ready for another 4th of July holiday weekend, I reflect on my experiences during the 2016 campaign for Bernie Sanders and the historical similarities between 1776 and 2016! Our journeys continue with Bernie as we continue to fight for our freedoms and independence in our lives for a future to believe in for all! Lessons for a future to believe in

Many of the lessons that I learned on my journey with Bernie in 2016 are still true today! It is so important to listen and focus on the issues to help find common agreement with people.

Mood Matters

During my journey with Bernie, it was a roller coaster ride with many highs and lows! Even during our darkest moments, we created the opportunity to celebrate and dance for a future to believe in! I'm looking forward to seeing so many Bernie family this weekend at the California Democratic Convention in SF Friday May 31 - June 2! Let's dance with Bernie!

Bernie Family Gatherings

During my journey, I met many friends on the roller coaster ride campaign and now we are Bernie family. Each year we gather for dinner and networking at annual conferences and events including the upcoming California Democratic Convention taking place in San Francisco Friday May 31st! The most valuable gift Bernie gave us was each other!

Philadelphia

The 2016 DNC convention took place in Philadelphia and the setting was historic and relevant to future historians. It is important to understand the historical context for our elections and democracy to ensure we do not repeat the same mistakes and learn from our experiences.

California Democratic Party Convention

During 2017, I was elected as a Assembly District Delegate (ADEM) for the California Democratic Party and was honored to be elected to represent my district! I learned so much about the process and joined caucuses, signed resolutions, and voted for Kimberly Ellis for CDP Chair. It is now 2019, after moving to Berkeley I ran again with my AD15 Progressive Labor slate and was runner up but so proud that we swept 13 out of 14 seats! The 2019 CDP convention is coming up May 31-June 2 in San Francisco with another Chair race and Kimberly Ellis is running to win! Plus caucuses and Bernie Sanders and other Presidential Candidates! Exciting opportunities ahead on my journey!

Building community people power

We have so much more power and control over our lives than we realize. It really begins by meeting people in our communities, sharing our stories and passions, and working together to bring about the change needed. The history of our movements has been about organizing and mobilizing people to support our cause.

Journeys around the country and around the world

I love to travel and explore our world! During My Journey with Bernie in 2016, I traveled to Iowa for the first caucus, around the country to 10 states to get out the vote, and around the world! My journey continues with Bernie 2020, moving to Berkeley California and continue to meet people in all 50 states for a future to believe in for all! Exploring new communities and taking journeys is incredible and I hope you will join me too!

I feel the Bern!

During my journey with Bernie, the more that I learned about the history of Bernie Sanders fighting for the people around the critical issues the more I wanted to commit to help with the campaign and to build a movement. Millions of people discovered Bernie in 2016 and started their journeys and millions more are continuing to build a movement and political revolution for a future to believe in for all. My trip to Reno Nevada was the first trip to many different communities and states around the country and around the world. More importantly, my journey was a personal journey that changed my life with a personal commitment to help Bernie, help others in our community, and bring positive energy and optimism to all
