Knowing Kadin will need to be proficient with the sword if he is to fulfill his destiny, he instructs Kadin in the sword. In this scene, he puts Kadin through the final test, which he passes only to be put through an excruciating ordeal to receive the mark of the LemMestari.

In an attempt to rescue Griaty from the Dark followers, the Alliance walk into a trap. They manage to get Griaty back, but Riaph is taken hostage during the attempt. With his son in the hands of his enemies, the war against Rakadamon becomes personal to Kadin. His role instantly morphs from resistance leader to distressed parent. He struggles with balancing his own agenda with that of the Alliance. Will he remain the focused leader of the Alliance or will he lose perspective, willing to sacrifice anything to secure his son's safe return?
