Since learning the extent of the looting of cultural treasures in many European countries by the Nazis during World War II, I have been fascinated by the topic and by the brave souls who fought to protect them. The prologue is my imagining of a possible scenario surrounding a real life event - the burning of so-called "degenerate" books and paintings by the Berlin Fire Brigade.
