My Trip to the A&P: A Timeless Tale

Literature & Fiction

Many believe were just organic beings who are born, live, and die. Or is there more to us than meets the eye? Could our lives go beyond the grave and the ashes we leave? The thought that our journey goes beyond our earthly lives is one humans have considered since we first walked upon the Earth. My novel, one man's journey in life, considers this question and more. The venture begins when Mr. Ray John heads to the A&P in his classic Edsel to purchase some items at the grocery store for a barbecue. Before leaving, he invites you to come along, too. There, he meets an unusual being who offers him a train ticket that could lead to a journey of a lifetime. He has to be at an abandoned depot and be there by 4:00 P.M. that day. He must decide to stay or go.

Bittersweet

Welcome to your dream. You and a traveling companion, inserted into a vast and unknown universe, have reached a ramp that has a sign that says Highway to Heaven. What would you do next? Would you enter the ramp with your friend or choose a path unmarked and never traveled. The ramp is drawing and compelling and your choice is made. You take your first step on the road and feel peace and joy. Painful memories are wiped away. But your friend tries to get on and is met by an undefined barrier and falls back. He Tries again and again with the same result. You ask the question why. Do you leave him behind and enter the highway and perhaps find the way to eternal life? You may say this is just human mythology concocted over time, our history. A frail human hope smothered by faith. But what if it isn't, perchance, and there is a human soul and a creator. What would you do?

One for the Road

Before I elaborate on Chapter 9, I'm going to declare this a "happy hour." Lets party. Have one on me. How about another? I'll get the next round. How about a cold one, a hard lemonade, a rum and coke, or some Jim Beam, and lets have some fun. The above is an American ritual that's woven into the fabric of American life. For youth, it's a rite de passage. They need to be a part of something. Their friends are doing it. Adults, too. They must have that first forbidden drink. They'll feel better. They can be themselves. It's time to party. This ritual isn't going away. It's here to stay. But is it all of what it's made out to be? Or is there a cost to pay? How does society measure its value and worth and its impact on family? It's certainly the topic of a never ending debate. In the meantime, have one on me. Did I really say that? Maybe it gets down to a choice. Yours. Cheers.

Now or Forever

A burning question lies within each human being. What happens to us when we take our last breath? Is it a new beginning, perhaps a spritiual existence. Or is our time up, and we turn to ashes and dust? With this question comes anxiety and fear of the unknown. It may hover over us, smother some of us, as we wonder why were here in what many believe is a temporal life. Many will embrace a live for today attitude, as tomorrow is not guaranteed. Or is each of us endowed at birth with a spirit, a soul, with a hope of life beyond the realm of death?

Time Travelers in Life

Are we just accidental creations of nature and biological beings who are born, live, and die? Is there a purpose to us being here, and do each of us have a soul, a human spirit, and is there a creative mind behind our existence? This journey considers all this and more, so join me in my classic Edsel, hop in, and will be off. (Available on this book page: http://amazon.com/dp/B00YDHS7EW)
