A Journey

This book was, to say the least, a journey. What began as a story I started more than ten years prior, ended with a love for characters to whom I wasn't willing to say goodbye. Alaina is as I believe heroines should be—strong, resilient, and ladylike. Of course she has a few flaws, but who doesn't. Tristan is a gentleman hero, but he's not concerned about doing what others expect, and I love him for that. I hope you enjoy Alaina and Tristan's journey of romance and mystery.

Compassion and Justice

Much like Scotland, Ireland has intrigued me and captured my imagination. I knew when it came time to write a story with a main character like Anne Doyle, she would be a lot like the amazing and strong Irishwomen I've had the pleasure of knowing in my life. Devon Clayton, our hero, deserved someone special, but I also knew the woman would have to be possessed of a kind and gentle spirit, with an uncommon compassion and fierce sense of justice. Anne turned out to be a perfect match for Devon's charismatic and protective personality. I hope you enjoy their story as much as I have.

Blackwood Crossing

Romance

Author MK McClintock returns with swashbuckling heroes and courageous heroines in Blackwood Crossing, a story of buried secrets and second chances. If you had to make a choice, would it be loyalty or love? Torn between loyalty to her family and refusal to marry a laird she despises, Rhona Davidson accepts a dangerous proposal from a man she knows only as Blackwood. Leaving behind a life of leisure, Charles Blackwood bravely serves his country with honor and the skill of a trained British agent. When his newest case returns him to the wild Highlands of Scotland, he is faced with a choice between killing a man and saving the only woman he has ever loved. Charles and Rhona join their lives, only to discover that their choices will result in bloodshed, unless they can uncover a truth long buried, deep in the Highland soil.

Friendship

Sometimes a story comes along that you want to write but it's a struggle. Your characters take on lives of their own, and no matter how much you want to control them, you can't. Rhona and Charles are unlike any other characters I've written. Their personalities took some getting used to, I'll admit, but when I did, I came to love them as much as I have any others. In some ways, they are the strongest "people" I've ever known, and certainly written. They're fierce and uncompromising, and if they were to walk this earth, I would be honored to call them friends.

Christmas in the Old West

Christmas in nineteenth-century America must have been a truly delightful occasion. Throughout my research, I came across customs and stories that not only delighted and entertained, but also gave me pause. Settlers and explorers of the west often spent the holiday on wagon trains, or camped along an icy river, with only an outdoor fire to offer warmth. Some were families at sea who enjoyed dainty meals of roast fowl, plum pudding, fruits, and cider. Others were soldiers in Colorado, short on rations, who found a way to celebrate when their hunting party shot eight buffalo. Others still enjoyed the comforts of a warm cabin or fine house, with all the trappings and trimmings Christmas offered. No matter how you spend the holiday, I wish you a special day surrounded by family or friends, good health, and much happiness.

Loving a Hero

It so happens that in this story you will meet my favorite character. Playing favorites with characters is akin to a parent choosing a favorite child, but Ethan's worth it. He's everything I love in a hero—down to his sometimes brooding and stubborn personality. Brenna is one tough Scottish lady, unafraid to embark on a journey not knowing what will be on the other side of the ocean. I couldn't have asked for a better partner for Ethan. I love the Gallagher family, so much so that I had to continue their stories and their journey. I do hope you enjoy spending time with them as much as I have.

A little background on Crooked Creek . . .

Emma of Crooked Creek was originally written for a short story contest, but while writing it, I realized that I had the makings of a new series that I very much wanted to write. Set in post-Civil War Montana Territory, the characters, time period, and setting came alive, and I'm looking forward to adding to this collection over time. Most of the stories in this series will be short stories or novelettes, but there will be at least two full-length novels, one of which will be a Christmas novel, and another an exciting battle-and-romance-filled western adventure. You'll have a chance to meet many characters from this unique Montana town, but for now, I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into Crooked Creek.

Stubborn Pride

Is it possible for me to love the Gallaghers even more? I believe it is. Even though this story concludes what I'm calling a trilogy in the Gallagher series, you have not seen the last of this remarkable family. Ramsey is a nice balance of tough and sweet. He missed out on a lot, but he's been lucky when all is said and done. Eliza is a contradiction of stubborn pride and levelheadedness. She loves her family, her life, and does what has to be done. I love the steadiness of both Ramsey and Eliza, which is why I believe they are a wonderful match. The present dangers may now be resolved, but the adventure doesn't end here.

Hattie

Hattie McBride is one of those characters who remained with me long after I finished her short story. I knew once I'd completed "Hattie of Crooked Creek" that she and Carson would be featured prominently in the full-length novels. She's strong yet feminine, determined but not foolish, and she found a perfect match in Carson White Eagle. Together, they take us on a wild western adventure. I hope you enjoy the ride.
