Taryn "Stinger" Maguire, a top PGA player, was found brutally murdered when he returned to his hometown for an exhibition. His secret becomes a bigger story than his death. The 2nd Bruce DelReno Mystery.
We meet Natalie, Maguire's former girlfriend, whose eulogy brings up many questions. Can the answers help Bruce and the police find his killer? Natalie is one of my favorite characters in the series, introduced in this book. Hopefully she will return in the next. (from chapter 6)
One of my favorite characters is Sean Maguire, Stinger's father. Perhaps the most fun I had was writing his dialogue. It is also a good example of how Bruce connects with persons of interest. This bubble ends abruptly because of a spoiler.
Bruce DelReno becomes a reluctant sleuth after discovering the body of a local and national celebrity, a top PGA pro. With very few clues to work with, the police make slow progress and will come to rely on DelReno's ability to connect with witnesses, when they cannot. The opening scenes show DelReno's concern for people affected by the tragedy, which leads to his obsession for solving the case, and why they would rather confide in him than the police.
