Her Dear and Loving Husband

Literature & Fiction

James Wentworth has a secret. He lives quietly in Salem, Massachusetts, making few ties with anyone. One night his private world is turned upside down when he meets Sarah Alexander, a dead ringer for his wife, Elizabeth. Though it has been years since Elizabeth's death, James cannot move on. Sarah also has a secret. She is haunted by nightmares about the Salem Witch Trials, and every night she is awakened by visions of hangings, being arrested, and dying in jail. Despite the obstacles of their secrets, James and Sarah fall in love. As James comes to terms with his feelings for Sarah, he must dodge accusations from a reporter desperate to prove that James is not who, or what, he seems to be. Soon James and Sarah piece their stories together and discover a mystery that may bind them in ways they never imagined. Will James make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Sarah and prevent a new hunt from bringing hysteria to Salem again? Part historical fiction, part romance, part paranormal fantasy, Her Dear and Loving Husband is a story for anyone who believes that true love never dies.

Book Bubbles from Her Dear and Loving Husband

Prologue

This is the prologue from Her Dear and Loving Husband. The intention was for these first words to bring the reader into a stream-of-consciousness world. We're not sure who the speaker is at this point, only that she's a woman head over heels in love with this very handsome golden-haired man. I wanted to whet the reader's appetite for what's to come (and to spark curiosity about who the speaker was, as well as the golden-haired man). Not everything (or everyone) is what it seems in Her Dear and Loving Husband, and that's what has drawn readers from all over the world into this ageless love story.

Her Loving Husband's Return

Literature & Fiction

What would you do to return to the only one you have ever loved? James Wentworth’s secret is no longer a secret, and now he and his beloved wife, Sarah, have been separated. While suffering his own internment, James is reminded of his time with Japanese-Americans in the Manzanar Relocation Camp during World War II, and he cannot allow the past to repeat itself. With the help of his friends—Chandresh, Jocelyn, Timothy, even the irreverent Geoffrey—James learns what it means to return, and he is determined to return to his Sarah no matter the challenges—or the consequences. In the end, it may be up to Olivia, the most powerful of witches, to grant James’s most fervent wish. Will James and Sarah be reunited once and for all despite the madness surrounding them?

Book Bubbles from Her Loving Husband's Return

Prologue from Her Loving Husband's Return

Just like with the first two books from the Loving Husband Trilogy, Her Dear and Loving Husband and Her Loving Husband's Curse, Her Loving Husband's Return begin with a first person point of view, this time from James. James, after he is forced away from his beloved Sarah and detained, he passes the time by writing letters. This letter is the first time we learn about James' experience with Japanese-Americans in the Manzanar Relocation Camp during World War II. Now, James must deal with his own relocation and decide what he's going to do about it. Fans of the series know that James and Sarah have been through a lot to be together. In Her Loving Husband's Return, they have more obstacles to overcome on their quest for their happily ever after.

That You Are Here

Gay & Lesbian

On the outside, handsome, successful attorney Andrew Whittaker has everything in life. On the inside, he has everything too, only he doesn't know it. He hides the love of his life, Mark Bryce, from his family and everyone else where he lives in Portland, Oregon. Soon the weight of the secret becomes too much for Andrew. After wrestling with himself and his place in the world, he must decide how he’s going to live—with or without Mark.

When Andrew Met Mark...

I think Chapter 2 is one of my favorite parts of That You Are Here. When we meet Andrew and Mark in Chapter 1, they're already a year into their relationship. I like that in Chapter 2 we take a step back to see how they met, at the pub owned by their mutual friend C.C. Collins. Sharing Andrew and Mark's relationship was a challenge because these two men are deeply in love, but Andrew is so afraid of others finding out that he's gay that he keeps his relationship with Mark hidden from everyone he knows. As a result, there's a lot of tension, and as a writer it's always a challenge to show two people who love each other but are still struggling with their own demons. But here, for this moment in Chapter 2, we can see those initial sparks, and we can understand why Andrew and Mark are drawn to be together.

Her Loving Husband's Curse

Literature & Fiction

How far will you go to protect the one you love? Finally, after many long and lonely years, vampire James Wentworth's life is falling into place. Together with his wife, Sarah, the only woman he has ever loved, he has found the meaning behind her nightmares about the Salem Witch Trials, and now they are rebuilding the life they began together so long ago. But the past is never far behind for the Wentworths. While Sarah is haunted by new visions, now about the baby she carried over three hundred years before, James is confronted with painful memories from his time with the Cherokee on the Trail of Tears. Through it all, the persistent reporter Kenneth Hempel reappears, still determined to prove that the undead walk the earth. If Hempel succeeds in his quest, James and Sarah will suffer. Will the curse of the vampire prevent James and Sarah from living their happily ever after? Her Loving Husband's Curse is Book Two of the Loving Husband Trilogy. Book One, Her Dear & Loving Husband, and Book Three, Her Loving Husband's Return, are also available.

About The Prologue

While Her Dear and Loving Husband, Book One in the Loving Husband Trilogy, is a stand alone story, Her Loving Husband's Curse is best after reading Her Dear and Loving Husband. For readers of Her Dear and Loving Husband, the secret that James struggled to hide (that he is a vampire) is now in the open, at least among those who mean the most to him. Here in this prologue we have the same stream of consciousness narration that we saw at the beginning of Her Dear and Loving Husband, only now it is from James' point of view. He is mistaken as a Raven Mocker, an evil spirit, by a Cherokee medicine man. This is the beginning of James sharing his story of his time with the Cherokee on the Trail of Tears. My hope for this prologue was that it would encourage readers to want to know more about James' experiences. In Her Loving Husband's Curse, we gain more insights into James' new life with his beloved wife Sarah.
