First Frost

Science Fiction & Fantasy

For generations, the Frost family has run the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts, handing down guardianship from mother to daughter, always keeping their secrets to “family only.” Gathered within museum’s walls is a collection dedicated to the Grimm fairy tales and to the rare items the family has acquired: Cinderella’s glass slipper, Snow White’s poisoned apple, the evil queen’s magic mirror, Sleeping Beauty’s enchanted spinning wheel… Seventeen-year-old Bianca Frost wants none of it, dreaming instead of a career in art or photography or…well, anything except working in the family’s museum. She knows the items in the glass display cases are fakes because, of course, magic doesn't really exist. She’s about to find out how wrong she is.

Book Bubbles from First Frost

Idea

I get asked this a lot, where did I get the idea for First Frost? When my oldest son was 18 months old, I was watching a commercial for The Delaware Children's Museum and I started thinking about how kids are sometimes into different things like, trains, pirates, dinosaurs, princesses and fairy tales. Then that thought stayed in my mind for a moment and I knew I had a great idea for a book that just had to be written down. The rest..as they say, is history.

Story time

I used to bilingual story time at two of my local libraries when I was pregnant with my first baby. I have a collection of fairy tales that can be read in English and Spanish. These days you can find me at the Hockessin Bookshelf once a month reading fairy tales to the kids. :)

True Story

The vacuum cleaner that Bianca is fighting right now is based on an actual vacuum cleaner that I used to own. I hated that thing. Every time I turned it on it would pull me around the room as though it had a life of it's own. I'm happy to report that I no longer own it. But at least it gave me the inspiration I needed to start chapter one of this book.
