The Luck Particle

Science Fiction & Fantasy

In 2007, nations are on the brink of a global financial catastrophe that threatens to bring down civilization. This is a diversion. In a world where money is the most powerful asset, a mysterious cabal is fighting a war of attrition with CERN to prevent humanity rediscovering the truth about the source of real power. After a brief chance encounter with his childhood sweetheart Esther, abducted immediately after, ex-special forces Lieutenant Colonel Ben Fallow gets drawn into a deadly personal mission. A group of people, thrown together by chance, are the only ones that can help keep the Large Hadron Collider operational. With the help of a man known only as The Historian, Ben must re-learn skills lost to humanity over millennia, help Professor Ebhart Fenkhause realize his life's work of seeking out the God particle at CERN and, in turn, begin to free the flow of power held back from the many by The Watchmen.

The Luck Particle

This book has been five years in the writing. It was prompted by my interest in following the progress of the Large Hadron Collider and a layman's fascination with scientific discovery. It struck me that, whilst many times scientists run tests and experiments which reveal nothing about the nature of what they initially were looking to prove, sometimes those experiments reveal knowledge about something completely unexpected. A new compound. A previously unknown element. And perhaps something that could turn whole civilizations on their heads, flipping belief systems overnight. This is my attempt at telling that story. I hope you like it.
