Have you ever felt like you were the only who person who cared about what happened to you? I think we've all had moments of awkward loneliness, when we've felt like we don't fit in, but in this passage, Jane truly feels apart, displaced from everyone she's ever known. When I wrote this scene, I could feel her dejection. Her bitterness too. But it turns out she's made of pretty strong stuff...
