The Pixie War

Science Fiction & Fantasy

Bill Smith, a conservative, and Sarah, a compassionate liberal, were ordinary college students until Bill is recruited by Santa Claus to fight for Faerie. The last of the dwarf pink pixies are threatened by habitat destruction. For Faerie this was the last straw. Faerie goes to war with the US government with an army consisting of a host of mythological creatures and an unlikely cast of humans. Among the creatures are gnomes and Marxist dwarves who try to improve their poor self-images by reciting famous quotations and poems. The fairies have recruited two famous musicians from the past: the American to be their king and the Brit to be an enchanter. A malevolent doppelganger is trying to assassinate the King, who tries hiding in plain sight. During their adventures, Bill and Sarah learn about history, pop culture, politics, religion, philosophy, economics and more. In the end they discover the merits of "The truth shall make you free."

Magical Remake of David and Goliath

Perhaps we should reconsider our view of Goliath. Instead of a bully, think about him as an enlightened individual who preferred single combat to the slaughter and maiming of thousands. Of course he could afford to be magnanimous because he thought he would win. Bolastra the "evil" doppelganger of this story considers himself to represent the enlightened and noble side and makes a similar offer. In the WWI Battle of the Somme there were over 1,000,000 casualties for a gain of 6 miles on a 16 mile front. There are real monsters in this world and they are far worse than anything from mythology. Some are the leaders who without any trace of remorse or regret send thousands of young men to die and be maimed for life for their dubious or selfish reasons. President Lyndon Johnson, to his credit, was troubled by his involvement in the Vietnam War.

John Lennon attacks.

In this excerpt John Lennon draws on his past pharmaceutical experience with chemicals to forge an unauthorized weapon, but worthy of the man who sang "All You Need is Love.".
