Fallen Angel

There are countless possibilities when it comes to the mythology of fallen angels. In Caleb's case, I tried to imagine a literal fall to Earth after ripping off his wings. It struck me as an emotional moment, not only for him, but for the companions he was leaving behind. The picture of Caleb hugging one of his brothers and asking for his help stuck me hard. It was a powerful revelation for me, having the tender moment turn violent and letting him fall through the air. I wanted Wynn to see what happened to him, so that she could understand what he went through. Letting her have that vision of his past was an emotional scene to write and it still chokes me up to read it even now.

Equal Exchange

The rules of maintaining balance in the Earthwalker universe call for an equal exchange. Angels and Demons are on opposite sides of the Mortal Realm. The Council serves as a way to maintain balance and make sure neither side becomes so powerful they could overthrow the other. If an angel decides to fall before their time to be born, a demon will also be given the chance to live on earth as part of the equal exchange. Alternatively, if an immortal being on either side is killed, erased from time and space, an opposing counterpart will die as well. The scale always manages to tip itself back to neutral and keep the powers that be in check.

Demon Twin

Wynn's immediate and visceral reaction to meeting Charley is my favorite part of this book. I knew immediately when Caleb became mortal that there would be another demon on the scene, but didn't know who. Then I came up with Charley and she is everything I wanted her to be and more.

Epic Kiss

THIS! This is the kiss that I had been wanting to write for ages. My favorite part of the exchange is that Wynn and Caleb spent the entire book previous existing on completely different planes and were unable to touch, but wanting to. Its like an itch that needed to be scratched and the catharsis is just delicious.

Dealing with the Devil

Literature & Fiction

All Wynn wants to do is finish high school, but anything normal seems impossible when the monsters under your bed are real... Wynonna Hendricks' world is turned upside down when A Demon Lord shows up in her bedroom and declares her soul his property. To regain her freedom, she must conquer the seven deadly sins. In doing so, she finds herself caught between the realms of Heaven, Hell, and Earth, with the angel Caleb as her only ally. His refusal to end her life may have started a war between the factions and thrown the Mortal Realm into mayhem. Wynn discovers new powers, new allies, and enemies she never knew existed—including her own human weakness. To protect her family, she vows to fight. Like. HELL.

*Swoon*

Wynn and Caleb have been dancing around their feelings for each other for quite some time when this scene takes place. They clearly have some deep and passionate feelings for one another, but have never been able to act on them. Since Wynn exists in the Mortal Realm, she is unable to touch or interact with him on the other side. They can see each other, but anytime they try to touch it passes through them like a ghost. Its incredibly frustrating for both of them because he WANTS to hold her, to kiss her, and to be there for Wynn physically, but can't in his angelic state. It's not physically possible. I love this scene because up till now they've been so careful about it, but the moment catches them by surprise. They forget the limitation placed on them and try to kiss. *swoon*

The Demon Lords

Being introduced to the Demon Lords for the first time was an integral part of the story. I wanted to give my readers a glimpse of the monsters Wynn would be facing. None of them were exactly what she expected and I found that really interesting to write and find out for myself as well.

What it means to be a witch

My version of witches is a little different than common lore. When I was writing this scene I really wanted to get at the meat of what it meant to be a witch, what that said about them as a person, and how it broke off into other facets of their life. Magic comes with a price and I think this explains exactly what I'm going for.

Making an entrance...

Say what you will about Aidan Thomas, but he knows how to make an entrance! He's one of my absolute favorite characters to write and this threat he makes sums up his personality perfectly.
