Centuries later murders and vampire signs are on the rise forcing the Brokenhearted to once again take action. Pawns or puppeteers, which are they? Melvina's time at the Bismarck State Penitentiary is contradictory on so many levels. It begins with her admittance and booking. The clerk documents things that defy logic, such as her age. She is 63 by most accounts, yet he annotates her age as 49 because she said so. Even after she gives him a birth date of 1838. Her physical description and weight are at odds with reports from the trial of her being 'angular' and not big as 200lbs would show. Then there is the question of race. He documents she is black. A census is done in 1900 and documents Melvina Massey as white. Yet in 1901 a prison clerk puts black on her admission forms. Was he influenced by the tabloids that covered her case? My belief is that he was. Melvina looks white enough for a census, but changes color in a year? One drop is all it takes. Throughout this procedure Melvina complains of a deal gone wrong. This implies that she had one in place. You will discover more later.
The Marshall and the Madam
In this chapter we dive into one of the many interpersonal relationships between Melvina and others. Marshal Bullock is one of few people on earth that can relate to Melvina's unique way of thinking. But that 'kinship' also presents a conflict of interest. This chapter shows how the Marshal honors his word and skirts the law at the same time.
