Prologue
This, of course, is the prologue to the main event. An interesting side-note: in planning out this series, I originally thought my first book would start where this book actually ends. Originally I thought I would start with a big, explosive event, then let the reader discover the characters through the active investigation. But to me, the most important thing is to really engage the reader, let them get to know the characters beforehand, to become emotionally involved in their lives.
