How Not to Do It!

I describe 5 overarching principles for successful engagement on Twitter. These are to be Systematic, Helpful, Active, Relevant and Personable. (SHARP). Within my description of being active, I highlight an intersting case study of an author who, in my humble opinion, is going about book marketing on Twitter in very much the wrong way. Obviously, I don't name him!

Beyond Twitter Basics

The book is called Advanced Twitter Strategies for Authors for a reason, and that's because it takes up where most other Twitter guide books leave off. I wrote this chapter with two objectives. Firstly to demonstrate knowledge of the basics so that the reader could understand that the book wouldn't cover them in any real detail. I even recommend other good books for authors. Secondly, I wanted to show how most advice books on Twitter describe all that activity that needs to be done without taking into account how much time it all takes! Freeing up time to write more while still remaining effective on Twitter is the primary objective of this book.

Empathising with the audience

I wrote this introduction to get across that I am just a typical author who's published a book expecting it to sell only to discover the hard way that you have to market your books all the time! Sound familiar? The only difference is that my geeky technical background has enabled me to research and identify incredibly effective ways to exploit Twitter for marketing my books. Way beyond the usual "Buy my great book" tweets that so many authors rely on. And so I wrote this book to share my experiences so other authors can benefit.
