Sheltered

Teens

Paranormal meets psycho meets Goth in this story of a supernatural haunting and budding love. Living together unsupervised, five troubled teens confront demonic forces and are compelled to deal with their problems in distinctly different ways.. High school junior, Ben, hacks into his step-father's real estate holdings and provides rooms in an old two-story house to various outcasts: the schizophrenic kid, the angry Goth girl, and the homeless girl who worships him. When Megan needs a place to live she comes to the rooming house with a different set of problems and the ability to confuse and attract Ben. One by one strange and mysterious occurrences stretch the teens’ beliefs in the supernatural. How they deal with demons, real and imagined, has tragic as well as redeeming consequences. What the critiques are saying: ***Dark and Completely Engrossing*** ***Intriguing*** ***Not for the faint hearted***

The Bad Girl

I really liked creating Cori, or rather watching her evolve through the story. She's that dark Goth girl you might notice out of the corner of your eye, but ignore because you've already pre-judged her. Cori has several layers to her personality, though. She's hard yet vulnerable, mean yet sympathetic. Of the five main characters in Sheltered she's probably my favorite. She's the one most open to demon possession and yet ...

Ripe for love

Who hasn't had a crush on an unattainable guy? What did you do about it? If you had a supernatural power what would you do? Emily was an interesting character to invent. Her scars were self-inflicted. She endured a lot of emotional pain as a throw-away child. Now at sixteen she is ripe for love. And ripe for a supernatural possession. Demons are real.

Pathetic Emily

Abused, homeless, then abandoned, sixteen year old Emily falls deeply for the only boy who has shown a speck of interest in her. Emily battles the demon of self-mutilation, cutting herself to relieve the pain of her situation. She is ripe for possession as her spirit and soul struggle against the supernatural. But what about the boy she likes - Ben? He has found her a home, helped her search for her mother, and been there for her. But is that enough?

Grabbing Kids' Attention and Holding It!

The first book in the Big Pine Lodge series, THE SECRET IN THE HIDDEN CAVE, starts off with two girls, Missy and Jessica, clinging onto a cliff's ledge looking for the secret entrance to a cave where their friend Kevin is trapped. By starting with the action at a critical and perilous point kids ages 8 - 12 will want to continue reading. The story then flashes back to how the whole adventure began. Kids will be enthralled as they get to explore the lodge, the secret caverns, the ghostly cemetery, and spooky attic along with Missy, Jessica, and Kevin. When the action again reaches the point where Kevin is trapped our young readers will have come full circle in the adventure. There's an exciting ending and two more books, MYSTERY'S GRAVE and BULLIES AND BEARS, with new mysteries to solve.

The Guardian's Diary

Teens

Young adult Christian fiction by the author of the best selling thriller Edge of Escape. 17 year old Jedidiah was born with a gruesome deformity that causes him to drag his foot. He embraces the nickname Dragonfoot and sets his goal to become a champion skateboarder, but amputation, a mission trip to Peru, and two girls that God puts in his path challenge his dream. Jedidiah opens his heart to both girls. Can he rescue the one who needs him without losing the one he needs? And can he open his heart to God as well and accept His will? This is Christian fiction that addresses difficult adolescent issues such as sex and drugs, but deals with them through a Biblical perspective.

Pity vs. Strength

Our weaknesses can make us stronger. In THE GUARDIAN'S DIARY the main character, Jedidiah, has a horrible deformity and we all know what that means in terms of school yard teasing. My first reaction was to pity this character that I myself invented. Funny, but Jed wouldn't have anything to do with it. I wondered: What if he fell for a girl who loved him but also pitied him? And what if there was another girl who loved him, but saw all his strengths and ignored his deformity? Could he make the right choice?
