Novel Idea
As an artist, most of my ideas for books come from very particular images. The scene of a giant, unconscious woman being dumped in the middle of a small town by an enormous horse appeared in my brain a long time ago. I spent years wrestling with the identity of the mysterious woman and the repercussions of her dying state. Finally, after beginning a series that centered on the end of the world, I found a perfect explanation and setting for her. And as I developed the novel, she grew even more bizarre.

Novel Idea
The idea for this novel came from a single image - a trickle of blood pouring out of Plymouth Rock. I have no idea what brought that disturbing image to my mind, but it immediately made me think of the stories of Moses bringing water out of rocks. That led to memories of the plagues that beset Egypt in Exodus, and that led to the idea of a small, American town experiencing unspeakable curses.

This novel was born from one disturbing thought I had while on vacation with my family. After a long day of riding monster roller coasters and trekking all over an amusement park, my wife and children collapsed in their beds and I jumped in the shower. As I stared at the water spinning into the drain I had the flash of a single image. The water darkened and turned into blood. Why would that happen, I thought, and what could it mean? It was an image I couldn't shake from my mind, and it slowly grew into the horrifying conspiracy of MINDFRONT.
