My great-aunt, or "Aunt Gertrude" as we called her, was a very short spinster with the kind of lines down her upper lip that only very stern people get. When the spirit medium said she heard brisk, angry footsteps across a wooden floor, along with orders to "Tell that Daniel Farish I know him and I would NOT invite him for dinner", I knew Aunt Gertrude had arrived. It's a moment that mad the hair on my neck stand up a little, but also brought a smile to my face. It was Gertrude's way of saying she was/is fond of me. As it turns out, she was the first of many long-lost family members and friends to communicate from the other side of life.

Hey, my excerpt reading friend! Nice to meet you! Want to hear a little about a weird (but true) book called Lighten Up? If you're anything now like I was eight years ago, you're probably a little suspicious about spirit mediums talking to dead people and even more suspicious about dead people talking back. Imagine someone you'd only just met telling you that 7 Souls were asking if you'd like to get to know them. I wasn't quite sure what they had in mind, but I knew if getting to know them meant dying anytime soon, the answer was a definite NO! It was at that point that I began to wonder if the spirit medium was genuine or genuinely insane. But I said nothing and wore my best poker face. The 7 Souls must have read my mind. as they immediately began communicating personal information about deceased friends and family that the medium could not possibly have guessed. They told me so many personal details over the next two hours that I became convinced that both the medium and the 7 Souls were the "real deal". I'd even known one of them in real life, as it turned out.
