Protagonist and theatre manager Jessica Jones has her hands full as she attempts to keep on schedule with an upcoming stage play while warding off typical, money-hungry property developers, visible signs of the slowly eroding building that houses the theatre, and a very distracting police presence once the body is discovered. There is an insider's view of hectic backstage preparations for a theatre production based on a well-known Agatha Christie classic, with the added obstacle of a dead body to spice up the conversation and action.
When a murder is committed in a busy theatre, the repercussions go well beyond the simple crime scene investigation. The production schedule is derailed while the theatre is closed, but worse still is the suspicion that develops among the cast and crew. Tamara, the recently-deceased hot little temptress, has had significant interactions with a number of people in the company of 'Appointment with Death', and now it's hard to know who to trust. Just as well Jessica, the theatre manager, is a good judge of character and knows who her friends are.
