As the engines shut down, Colonel Parker appeared and, looking at Misha and Babette and indicating with his hand to stay seated, said, “This won’t take long. We will deplane first and sort out official from nonofficial in the greeting party.” As Misha and Babette watched Major Smith and Colonel Parker deplane, they scanned the crowd that was waiting for them.
“Look at those two blondes in miniskirts,” said Babette. “They look ridiculous dressed as they are carrying briefcases. I wonder who they are.”
Misha went to the door to get a better look. His blue eyes flashed, and his face lit up as he spotted the two girls. They were extremely attractive, and before Misha could comment, Major Smith was directing the two of them to board the plane.
“Merde,” said Misha, “life is exciting in the US.”
Babette’s expression turned cold, and she called to Misha, “I would watch that swearing in French, Misha. I know you think it more polite than swearing in Russian or English, but it could be a problem with French listeners.”
Meanwhile, she experienced a tinge of jealously. How could he be ogling other women when just a few hours earlier we were making passionate love in a hotel room? Who is this Russian I’m involved with?
Misha turned and came back to his seat, surprising Babette with a peck on the cheek, and said, “Pardon, I think they are from the consulate.”
