Two Worlds, One Child’s Heart

Two Worlds, one child's heart - Nominated for DBW18 Award. This is a true and exciting story about two children, two countries and one friendship. Zhau Yang was born in a great and mysterious country – China. He lived there with his family, in all kinds of weather. Shahar was born in a small and unique country – Israel. He traveled to China with his parents to study, tour and enjoy. One day, they encountered each other on a street in China. Both were licking sweet, pink ice cream. They looked at each other silently and curiously, for not only did they not know each other, but they could see that they really did not look alike – they were so very different. They liked playing the same games, and they cried the same tears when saying goodbye, but they lived in worlds so far apart from each other, worlds in which children live who are so dissimilar and yet so very similar. Vered Kaminsky, a teacher of Communication, Cinematography, & a journalist, has published four children’s books. 'Two Worlds, One Child's Heart' has published in Hebrew and in Chinese.

Nominated for DBW18 Award

"Two Worlds, One Child's Heart" gained most favorable criticism as it presents the young reader with experiences from China and insights which are important for his/her continuous way in the world. The most conspicuous of them is the importance of equality between human beings, while discussing the difference issues which actually leads to finding the similarities between them. The insight that despite the difference we are all similar, is expressed in the book throughout the journey in China. It describes, in stages, the way in which the different can also be similar. As a teacher and a journalist and a mother of two children, I experience daily our needs and those of our children to bridge, despite the differences, between children and people. And when the similarity is revealed, that is when magic takes place. I do believe that once we direct our children to accept the different wherever it is, thus we shall gain a more supporting and accepting society.

Through the story of the the constitutive journey of Shahar and Zauo Young, the children comprehend that it is precisely the difference that is bringing them closer. In fact, "when all is different it is easier to find the similar" (Magazine "Being Parents"). The major message in the book: "we are all so different yet still similar- similar deep inside".
